Moving out to a new Studio
After six years of working from my studio in Mokattam, I am moving to a new studio at ESPITALIA, Art & Cultural Spaces, in Sayeda Zeinab. It is located within a rehabilitation center for children with polio, it also houses a home for the elderly, an unexpected setting for an art studio, and one that I find particularly interesting. I’m curious to see how this new environment, and the people and activities around it, will find their way into my work.
A new space, a new chapter.
A fellow at MEDRX 2ND EDITION
Starting in June 2026, I will be participating in the 6-month Medrx 2nd Edition, organized by Medrar Studio for Contemporary Art in Cairo. Titled Cache: Narrations of Times and Territories, this edition functions as an intensive production laboratory concluding with a public exhibition. The program centers on practices exploring new media and technologically mediated forms, bridging the divide between alternative artistic research and hands-on production.
Panel discussion at UFNA 1st Forum
During the launch and inaugural forum of Untitled from North Africa (UfNA), titled Unlearning Empire: Rupture as Pedagogy, I was honored to participate as a guest speaker. I joined artist Rania Atef and curator Nouran Aboulseoud for a panel discussion entitled Multilayered Meanings of Erasure, moderated by curator Batool Elhennawy. UfNA is a dynamic collective that operates at the critical intersection of artistic practice, pedagogy, and intellectual inquiry.
Storage full Workshop
It is always a pleasure to collaborate with the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC). They have invited me to contribute to the second chapter of their year-long program, On Value.
Storage Full is a workshop that reflected on the current sphere of image-practices, thinking about the possibility of making images in times of crisis.
Makhazen Al-raaya publication
Makhazen Al-Raaya is the first publication emerging from a collaboration between artists Rania Atef and Mai Al Shazly. It marks the main output of our collective Cabbage Dolls, founded in 2021 with support from Mophradat’s Self-Organization Fund. Edited and curated by artist Ahmed Shawky Hassan, the book explores the impact of familial and caregiving responsibilities on creative practice.
Halaqat Photography Residency
It was my pleasure and honor to accompany and mentor the amazing photographers Randa Mirza, Lotfy Ghariani, and Aya Chirki during their stay in Cairo as part of Halaqat Photography Residency supported by Goethe institute.
Mada Mentorship program
Launched by Darb1718, Mada was a mentorship and educational program created by artist Ahmed Shawky Hassan. I was invited to lead a workshop exploring artistic practice. Titled “Some Notes on Being an Artist,” this one-day workshop began with pre-assigned readings that examined the current state of art production. We engaged in discussions about various works, delving deeper into the artistic medium and the concept of creation.
the dinosaur exhibition
I am delighted to curate an exhibition for the second time during Cairo Photo Week.Titled The Dinosaur, the exhibition paid tribute to my dear friend and photographer Yasser Alwan. I worked with his printed archive to create a showcase that honored him as a friend, devoted father, and extraordinary photographer. Heartfelt thanks to Photopia for their trust and to Yasser’s family for their generosity.

TERRITORIES OF TOGETHERNeSS EXHIBITION
Opening at eth French Institute in Cairo, curated by Rania Atef. I am taking part along with other three artists; Ahmed Shawky Hassan, Mohamed Bakry, and Nourhan Mayyouf.
The exhibition asks: What does it mean to be together today? And how do the spaces we gather in shape what we reveal, conceal, or perform?
11/77 EXHIBITION
The exhibition is the outcome of the Spring ’25 Lab: Playing with Archive at CILAS. It works on building and collecting an archive of the “1977 Bread Riots,” happened in Egypt. The work doesn’t aim to collect documents and images, but building as a contested field full of biases and unspoken narratives.
TIDES EXHIBITION
Opening on September 11th, 2024! I am thrilled to curate an exhibition at the French Institute in Cairo, featuring the works of these talented artists and photographers following their residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts.
