In Dec 2012, I took this image of two men praying at the main hall of Abdel Nasser Subway station in Cairo. The photo is disturbing for they are praying, facing Nasser's mosaic image that happened to be in the same direction of Mecca, muslim's Qiblah in praying. The thing which is not preferable in Islam, to pray facing a figure.
One year later, after Morsi, Muslim Brotherhood candidate won the first presidential elections in Egypt after the uprising of 2011. I found that Nasser's face was covered by a graphic poster indicating the direction of Mecca.
On posting these two images on Facebook, a journalist saw the post, went to the station, interviewed the station's manager about the reason behind covereing Nasser's face and if it had something to do with Nasser's policies aganist the islamists. The guy comepllety denied the connection and ended the conversation.
One day later, I found the last change, in which the poster were removed little to the side.
Update: at the moment, there is a little sticker was put on Nasser's eyes defacing his features without covering his identity.
